Pro Bono

Happy indigenous womenWe have three major pro bono clients, who are the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-Operative, the Gunditjmara Aboriginal Co-Operative in Warnambool and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Staff member Emma Edwardes heads the pro bono team and is involved in developing a ground breaking juvenile justice program for Koorie children. She is working with the Tony Douglas Foundation and Duke of Edinburgh to develop a youth justice program for young aboriginal children in the Ballarat, Warnambool and Western Victorian region Criminal Justice System.

The Ballarat & District Aboriginal Co-Operative and The Gunditjmara Aboriginal Co-Operative

With the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Community, we provide free legal advice and support for the Kirrit Barreet Art Gallery.

We are working together with the Gunditjmara Aboriginal Co-Operative providing support and guidance in helping them pursue their community goals.

We aim to help the Co-Operative's Aboriginal community overcome legal hurdles in a culturally sensitive way; and support the wellbeing and cultural integrity of the community.

Through our work with the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-Operative and the Gunditjmara Aboriginal Co-Operative, Douglas Workplace & Litigation Lawyers staff gain invaluable insight contributing to their personal development and their work with mainstream clients.

Duke of Edinburgh

Douglas Workplace & Litigation Lawyers does a range of legal work for the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Victoria, including the development of a risk management regime which includes all overseas expeditions.

The Duke of Edinburgh program helps young Australians develop leadership skills while helping those who are vulnerable.

We support our staff to travel in support of the Duke of Edinburgh Award program. In 2008, staff members will assist with charitable work in Nepal.
